RIFF and Indie Week are thrilled to announce Hired Gun as their opening feature film of 2016 on Wednesday, November 16. First debuted at SXSW Music Festival this past winter, Hired Gun is a music documentary by American director Jason Hook and guitarist Fran Strine on the stories of the virtually unknown musicians backing bands like Ozzy Osbourne, P!NK and Metallica.

“This year we are thrilled to present the finished feature of Hired Gun,” says RIFF Film Coordinator Cameron Carpenter. “This film is an intimate look at the musicians behind the superstars both on stage and in the studio. We’ve all heard them perform at concerts and on countless recordings. Millions have watched and listened to them play the music of the famous stars who hire them. They are the “First Call, A-list” musicians, the go-to players standing in the shadows of our favorite stars on stage and backing them up in the studio. They are an indispensable part of every performance but who are they really? What makes them tick? Why do some succeed while others fail? Why are some in demand while others are left for dead in the wreckage of a failed career? YOU will have a front row seat to hear these stories for the first time!
